APPLICATION FOR REVIEWERS

a. Background

MESTI is developing a database of reviewers in all fields of research and is calling for services of reviewers to support this process. MESTI chooses peer reviewers based on their knowledge, skills, and expertise. Reviewers will be required to evaluate research proposals submitted to MESTI based on the requirements of the Call for proposals/Concept, predefined criteria, and the quality, completeness and accuracy of the research proposals presented. You will be required to provide feedback on the research proposals, suggest improvements and make a recommendation to the Executive Secretary of MESTI about whether to accept, reject or request changes to the research.

b. Preferred Skills and Experience

MESTI reviewers must:

Have related program experience and education
Be able to analyze grant applications effectively against specific criteria
Be able to clearly express their evaluations in writing
Be interested in contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field of Behavioral Health

As Reviewers your role shall be:

To ensure that rigorous standards of the scientific process are followed in the review of proposals to MESTI
To take part in reviewing project proposals being undertaken by the different research investigators in your field of expertise.
Identify research that is not in line with the specific call for proposal
Prevent any possible ethical breaches by identifying plagiarism, research fraud and other concerns that may jeopardize the quality of research

c. Peer Reviewer Requirements

Prospective peer reviewers must be:

A PhD degree from a recognized university, published at least 10 publications and managed at least 10 projects.
Willing and able to provide written and oral comments based on their professional knowledge
Experts in the subject area to be reviewed

They must also:

Be able to listen attentively to the input of other reviewers
Engage in discussion
Be willing to bridge differences
Work with other reviewers to synthesize comments, especially when resolving discrepancies in scoring

In addition, potential peer reviewers must have the highest level of personal standards to:

Ethically review proprietary information
Maintain confidentiality
Avoid any conflict of interest

The fields are but not limited to:

Natural sciences
Medical science
Social science and humanities
Environmental sciences
Aero and space science
Technology and engineering

d. Time Commitment and Compensation

Reviewers will be needed whenever MESTI is undertaking a grants process. Time commitments will vary depending on the grants under review and the number of assigned applications. The peer review process will allow about two weeks for review of assigned applications. All reviews will be coordinated via email, phone, and the online review system. All new reviewers will be required to take an online reviewer training prior to participating in the review process. Reviewers will receive commiserate compensation per application reviewed and returned to MESTI in the timeline specified for each program.
